Linkstation revisited

Well that’s my media server up and running. I was able to purchase an old version of TwonkyServer (4.11) from Twonkyvision for the princely sum of £6.00. It took a little bit of muck about with config files as while it supposedly supports Debian Sarge it didn’t have the rc.3 directory set to its correct path – it kept wanting etc/rc.d/rc3.d so I had to remove rc.d from a couple of places on the configuration file that comes with the client installer.

I had a laptop stream a film, some songs from the media server while running top on Debian to see if you die horrendously and start swapping to disk (remember it only has 40MB RAM which is soldered on so I cna’t upgrade it). However, it ran lovely – naturally the Twonky processes consumed the most resource but I still had physical RAM spare and the cpu was quite under-stressed.

Now all I need to do is get a cloud backup service running to archive the content of the drive. I wonder if anyone supports Debian that old or whether I’ll have to map it through one of my windows clients.

Laters, Matt
